The Other Mile High City
There are 5280 feet in a mile. Denver gets called The Mile High City and a search for altitude Denver Colorado gives me the answer 5278′ 10″. A search for altitude Albuquerque nm gives me 5311′ 8″. I am absolutely certain that's for one specific spot in this sprawling city and some points would be higher and some lower and I'm equally certain the same is true for that cherry picked figure for Denver. So it wouldn't be unreasonable to also describe Albuquerque as a mile high city. I've never heard anyone say something like that about Albuquerque. For that matter, I was shocked to learn that the lowest point in the state of New Mexico is still 2,842 feet above sea level. Santa Fe has the highest elevation of any state capitol and various sources place it around 7000 to 7200 feet above sea level. New Mexico is widely understood to be a desert state similar to its next door neighbor Arizona. I have never heard anyone categorize it as a mountain state similar to Colorado ...
